A time to recharge?

Are you an unpaid carer? Is someone caring for you? If so, you must read on!
I’m delighted to announce a new MMHS wellbeing initiative for our ministerial residents.
We’re launching a respite and care grants programme for unpaid caregivers, and for those receiving their care.
There are two types of grants.
You can apply for one – or both – as you wish:
- up to £1,500 towards alternative care for you while your unpaid carer takes a break;
- up to £1,500 towards your unpaid carer’s expenses in taking this break, for example to go on holiday or visit family.
I believe unpaid carers are unsung heroes. They’re part of the backbone of society. They sacrificially give the best of themselves supporting others. Caring can take a serious toll – especially when it combines with the challenges of getting older and less able.
I’m a big fan of the reflections on the meaning of life in Ecclesiastes. I especially like chapter three’s musings on the times and seasons of life. I’m taking this idea of a time for everything and a season for every activity and applying it to our grants programme.
Is this the opportune time for you to take a break? Would you like to give someone the gift of time so they can relax? Is it time to experience new things?
If so, then you may want to see our application pack which explains everything about the grant programme. Contact our Housing and Wellbeing Officer, Verity Twombley, who will be pleased to send you a pack – email: vtwombley@mmhs.org.uk or phone 020 3484 6020. Do note that the number of available grants is limited.
Applications must be received by 30 April 2026.
With warmest wishes,
Mairi Johnstone, CEO
