If our gardens serve as a ‘Natural Health Service’ – as senior physician Sir Muir Gray calls it – they might well benefit from additional investment.

We would like to remind those of you with gardens that the Methodist Church’s Fund for the Support of Presbyters & Deacons (FSPD) generously offers a gardening grant of £250 per connexional year to help with the maintenance of gardens.

Once your form is complete, you can submit it in one of two ways:

You may be interested in research from 2021 supporting the statement by Sir Muir Gray that ‘everyone needs a Natural Health Service as well as a National Health Service’.

Those who gardened every day had ‘wellbeing scores’ 6.6% higher and ‘stress levels’ 4.2% lower than people who didn’t garden at all, as noted in an article by the Royal Horticultural Society.

Surveying more than 6,000 people, the RHS study showed a significant association between gardening more frequently and improvements in wellbeing, perceived stress and physical activity.
