How to find a fun festive event
It can be anything from a craft fair to carols round a firepit. Do you want to find out about festive events in your area – or publicise one you helped organise?
If so, then you might find Community Christmas useful. This is a free directory of festive events and activities taking place across the UK between 1 December 2024 and 1 January 2025 that welcome older people aged 75 and over.
Run by charity Re-engage, the directory is a helpful resource for older people who may be lonely or socially isolated. It lists events in a wide variety of venues – from churches to town halls – where they can spend time with others during the festive period. Find out about the activities by clicking here.
If you’re planning a festive event or activity, which an older person aged 75 or older can attend, Re-engage also invite you to publicise it in their directory.
As long as it’s suitable for older people, Re-engage are happy to publicise it. You can share your event by clicking here.
Re-engage aim to make life less lonely for thousands of older people every year. That’s because as we get older, our social circles diminish, and we can find ourselves with fewer and fewer people to turn to.
The charity run tea parties, a telephone befriending service and activity groups. Re-engage say they are committed to older people being ‘heard, valued and engaged’. If you attend or arrange a festive event, please tell us about it by emailing here. (Photo: oneinchpunch/shutterstock.com)
